- CDS-CSO-PUB item 10Pinecone is a fully managed vector database for AI applications. It stores, indexes, and searches high-dimensional vector embeddings to power retrieval for semantic search, recommendation, and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) workloads. Customers create indexes in a cloud region of their choosing and interact with the service through documented APIs and client SDKs. The service is operated by Pinecone on public cloud infrastructure, with customer data encrypted at rest (AES-256, with a distinct data encryption key for every stored object, so no data key is shared between customers) and in transit (TLS 1.2 minimum).
